New Year’s Resolutions

While I’m all about new beginnings and good intentions, I’m reliably informed that this is the autobahn to hotter climes. I could do with a bit of heat right about now, but not the slippery slope kind. In all my 35 years I have learned one irrefutable fact. I never stick to my resolutions. If I am going to do something, I Nike it! When I make plans, plan programs or program my mental self to change, I automatically become lazy, indolent and I pick up about 10 pounds through pure osmosis. My husband is convinced it is a deep seated psychological antipathy towards authority. I think he’s probably right.
I do however, intend to follow through on one resolution this year. Note, I’m not making the resolution this year, merely following through from years past. I am going to start eating breakfast.
I am a chef, and a mother. I know it is the most important meal of the day. I even like breakfast. The problem is I just don’t do mornings. At least not awake, I don’t. My favourite breakfast is usually at around 4pm. Nothing is more civilized than an afternoon after the night before cooked English breakfast. Hold the black pudding, please.
But that’s not the kind that counts. The kind of breakfast I’m talking about is the kind that is eaten in the morning to kick start the day. And I have done this once so far this year, sliding in under the morning line at a few minutes to twelve.
Admittedly, I took a shortcut, but as Santa did not bring me the dishwasher I have been asking for for the last 3 years, I felt fully justified. My one pan cooked breakfast was just as delicious as a 3 pan version, with noticeably less washing up. And I might even do it again it was so easy. This after all is the secret to resolutions: make them attainable! If not absolutely scrumptiously desirable.

Hear hear!! I don’t do resolutions either - too depressing when I invariably fall off the resolution wagon. And like you, I am trying to eat breakfast when my body wakes up (about 2 hours before my mouth is really ready to accept food).
Have a happy, healthy & prosperous 2008!
I could eat that any time of the day! I never ate brakfast until a few years ago. I find it just makes me want to eat more and more. I was skinnier without it.:-)
I love a hot cooked breakfast - for lunch or dinner. Mornings really should be abolished. I had a roommate once that was a morning person….I still have nightmares. Now, a cup of coffee and some chocolates, I can do that for breakfast…or cold pizza…
I have given up making resolutions for the New Year. I never make promises I can’t keep the rest of the year so why cheat myself. I am a morning person myself so breakfast is a big part of my day…I quite often don’t do lunch though…but to eat nothing at all at lunch is a no-no….
I think this is just perfect for my breakfast at 4 pm! Joined by a nice cup of rooibos… I can see myself this afternoon, (since I don’t have the desire for food in the mornings).

“a deep seated psychological antipathy towards authority”
Yes! That must be what it is with me as well! haha
I could have breakfast 3 times a day - I LOVE breakfasts! That would be just perfect for my lunch, i.e. my breakfast#2 of the day!
I too never stick to my new years resolutions.
Hey you can cook me any time this breakfast it looks so delicious.
On the weekend i too do sometimes the full english breakfast which all of us in the family enjoys.
Happy New year to you and family
Yeah, I don’t make resolutions, anymore. There are enough things in life that won’t get accomplished, why add another?
Though I’m a latecomer to appreciating breakfast, I really love it now.
Yum..that looks great…I don;t eat breakfast either..usually I only eat once a day…if that. I like to cook..eating..eh. Not so much
